A HERO THROUGH THE AGES

Full sized view

Due to increased media interest and demand from visiting tourists, Trebosporth Antiquarian Society are proud to present an online exhibition featuring the town's infamous local hero, Kernowman!

And as everybody knows, Kernowman has been documented since the beginning of Time itself.....

But where did he come?

Cornish oral traditions have always spoken of a "Curno Manne" who was present at times of trouble in Cornwall.

The surviving investor of the Lyonesse-By-The-Sea Regeneration Project Is Hauled from the Murky Depths...

History has recorded many fleeting appearances of the masked-defender, such as his heroic flooding of an entire landmass in order to stop medieval developers from building luxury hovels for wealthy peasants.

Although this incident went on to be labelled as the "Lyonesse Disaster", Kernowman knew his actions were totally justified (as were his subsequent salvage rights).

Whenever he is needed, Kernowman’s ageless spirit mysteriously inhabits the body of a suitable Cornishman.

Hosts in the past have included King Arthur, Richard Trevithick,

and local boy Albert ‘Pascoe’ Einstein.

But since giving local boy Albert Einstein the benefits of his sharp intellect, Kernowman has been missing.... Until Recently!

The rapid increase of second homes in Cornwall has seen Kernowman once again use a Cornishman’s body. Who is his new (slightly flawed) host?

Mr Thurstan Jenkin of Trebosporth.

The rising number of 'second homes' plotted against 'frequency of Kernowman' sightings gives startling results, as this graph clearly shows.

Thurstan’s life was completely transformed one night, when he accidentally fell down a disused mineshaft on the outskirts of Trebosporth

sand dunes.

Not sure whether he was dead, dreaming or high on Radon Gas, Thurstan awoke at the bottom of the shaft with a mysterious green light glowing all around him and a strange voice calling him into the distant darkness.

Following the voice to its source, Thurstan appeared face-to-face with St Piran himself, who bestowed upon him Kernowman’s mysterious powers.

Yes, it was in St Piran’s hole that Thurstan became Kernowman!
